Can’t Find Traction Mats for Your Jet Ski? A Custom Fit Guide

You’ve found a traction mat design you like—but your jet ski’s model or year isn’t listed. What should you do next?

This can happen with a newly released model, an older personal watercraft, or a deck layout that differs from the available pattern. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to settle for a poorly fitting kit.

A custom EVA traction mat kit may be an option. The starting point is confirming your watercraft and providing enough information to reproduce the areas you want to cover.

Here’s what to check before ordering, and how the custom-fit process works at HzKaiCun.

Start With the Exact Model and Year

Before comparing mat kits, confirm your jet ski’s brand, full model name, and model year. Similar names or a similar-looking hull do not establish that two watercraft use the same mat pattern.

For an initial inquiry, send us:

  • Brand, such as Yamaha, Sea-Doo, or Kawasaki.
  • Full model name, including any relevant trim designation.
  • Model year.
  • Clear photos of the footwells and rear boarding area.
  • The areas you want included in the kit.

If you’re unsure about the model year, check the watercraft’s documentation rather than relying only on the year you purchased it.

You can start by exploring our custom jet ski traction mats page, then contact us to check whether an existing pattern is available for your exact watercraft.

Why a Similar Model Isn’t Enough to Confirm Fit

A mat kit needs to follow the actual surfaces where it will be installed. Even when two jet skis look similar, details around the footwells, rear platform, contours, and fittings need to be checked.

A kit that is close in overall size can still leave awkward gaps or place an edge where it should not be. Choosing by appearance alone also makes it harder to confirm how individual pieces should align.

If a listing includes a range of years, check that your model and configuration are included. If they aren’t clearly listed, send photos and ask before placing the order.

What If Your Jet Ski Is a New Model?

For a newly released model—including a 2027 model—ask us to confirm pattern availability first. A pattern for an earlier year should not automatically be treated as a match.

If we don’t have an existing pattern, we can review suitable dimensioned drawings or discuss a full-size template with you. This helps establish the shape and coverage before production.

The same approach applies to older models that are not in our current pattern collection: identify the watercraft first, then work out what information is needed to create the kit.

Send Photos That Show the Whole Installation Area

Photos are useful for understanding the layout and deciding what needs to be measured. Start with an overall view, then add closer images of the individual areas.

  • A view from above showing both footwells.
  • A separate photo of each footwell.
  • A clear view of the rear boarding platform.
  • Close-ups of drains, fittings, curved edges, and other details near the proposed mats.
  • Photos of the existing mats, if they are still installed.

Take photos in good light and keep the camera as square to the surface as practical. Avoid relying on one low-angle image, which can make shapes and proportions difficult to judge.

Photos help us review the project, but ordinary photos alone do not provide a reliable full-size cutting pattern. Depending on the layout, we may still need a dimensioned drawing or a physical template.

Already Have a Drawing? Here’s What to Include

If you have a drawing, send it for review before ordering. Clearly label the watercraft’s model and year, the measurement units, and the area represented by each piece.

A useful drawing should show more than the maximum length and width. Curves, corners, cutouts, and the position of nearby fittings can affect the final shape.

Include:

  • Dimensions in inches or millimeters, with the units clearly stated.
  • The outline of each area you want covered.
  • Measurements locating important cutouts and changes in shape.
  • Labels for left, right, front, and rear.
  • Photos that connect each drawing to its location on the watercraft.

We’ll review the information and let you know whether it is sufficient or whether additional measurements or a full-size template are needed.

No Drawing? A Full-Size Template May Be the Next Step

A full-size template records the outline of the area directly on the watercraft. It can be particularly useful when a shape has curves or details that are difficult to describe with a few measurements.

Before starting, contact us so we can confirm the areas to trace and the information to mark. Our template tools kit includes materials used for tracing, such as polyethylene film, masking tape, and a black marker.

When preparing the template:

  • Follow the supplied tracing instructions.
  • Keep the film stable while marking the outline.
  • Mark each piece’s location and orientation.
  • Identify drains, fittings, and areas that need clearance.
  • Photograph the completed tracing in place before removing it.

Send the tracing photos for review before arranging collection. This gives us a chance to spot missing labels or unclear areas while the template can still be checked against the watercraft.

Ask About the Template Reward Program

If your model has no existing pattern, ask whether your project qualifies for the HzKaiCun Template Reward Program.

Eligible projects receive 30% off the final custom mat order. The template kit cost can be refunded or credited toward the final order, and free UPS pickup is arranged after the completed tracing has been reviewed.

Confirm the program details with us before ordering the kit so the steps are clear for your project.

Choose Colors and Artwork After Confirming the Layout

Once the coverage is established, you can focus on the appearance of the kit.

Think about how the top color, lower layer, routed details, and any custom artwork will work with your jet ski’s existing colors. A simple contrasting border can create a coordinated look, while a personal logo can make the kit more individual.

For a seasonal design, black-and-orange colors or a Halloween-inspired motif may be an option. If you want to use the same mats year-round, consider whether a color combination or personal logo would suit you better than a strongly seasonal illustration.

Artwork needs to suit the usable space on each piece. Small or narrow sections may call for simpler details, and left and right pieces should be reviewed together for a balanced design.

Review the Design Before Production

The design review is your opportunity to confirm the layout, coverage, and appearance of the kit.

Check the drawing against your watercraft and the photos or templates you supplied. Pay particular attention to:

  • The model and year shown on the project.
  • The number of pieces and the areas included.
  • Left and right orientation.
  • Cutouts and clearance around fittings and drains.
  • Color choices, pattern direction, and logo placement.
  • Any dimensions that were requested for confirmation.

If something is unclear, resolve it before approving production. It is easier to correct a drawing than a finished mat.

HzKaiCun normally completes production within seven business days after the final drawing is approved, except for special colors. Shipping typically takes another seven to ten days. Confirm the estimated schedule for your order, especially if you need the kit before a trip or event.

Prepare for Installation Before the Kit Arrives

If you’re replacing existing mats, allow time to remove them and prepare the surface according to the installation instructions.

The installation area needs to be clean, dry, and suitable for the adhesive. Old adhesive, surface treatments, repairs, or damage should be assessed before applying the new pieces.

When the kit arrives, check the pieces and their positions before removing the backing. Contact us if anything appears inconsistent with the approved layout.

If you prefer to make and cut your own pieces, EVA foam sheets are another option. That route leaves the layout, cutting, and edge finishing to you, so consider the shape of the project and the work involved before deciding.

Ready to Check Your Jet Ski?

You don’t need to have every measurement ready for the first conversation.

Email sam@hzkaicun.com with your jet ski’s brand, model, year, and a few clear deck photos. Tell us whether you want to replace the existing mats or cover additional areas.

We’ll check pattern availability and explain what is needed next—whether that means confirming an existing layout, reviewing your drawing, or preparing a full-size template.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I order custom mats if my jet ski isn’t listed?

Contact us with the exact model, year, and photos. If no existing pattern is available, we can review drawings or discuss a template to establish whether we can produce a suitable kit.

Can you make mats from photos alone?

Photos help us understand the layout, but they generally do not establish precise full-size outlines. Additional measurements, drawings, or a physical template may be required.

Can I use a kit made for another model year?

Only after compatibility has been confirmed. A similar appearance or model name is not enough to establish that the mat pattern matches.

Do you have patterns for 2027 jet skis?

Availability depends on the exact model. Send us the full model details so we can check. If a pattern is unavailable, we can discuss drawings or templating rather than assume an earlier kit will fit.

Can I add a custom logo or Halloween design?

Send the artwork and your preferred colors for review. We’ll discuss whether the design suits the size and shape of the selected mat pieces.
