From Template to Finished EVA Boat Flooring — Kai Shows How It’s Made

What actually happens after you send us your boat measurements or deck template?

For many boat owners, custom EVA flooring can feel complicated from the outside.

You send a boat model, a drawing, or a template — and sometime later, a complete set of CNC-cut EVA flooring arrives at your door.

But there are several important steps between those two points.

In this guide, Kai takes you behind the scenes of the HzKaiCun custom boat flooring process — from identifying your boat to preparing the final EVA pieces for installation.

Step 1 — Tell Us About Your Boat

Every custom flooring project starts with basic boat information.

Send us:

  • Boat brand
  • Boat model
  • Model year
  • Photos of the deck
  • Areas you want to cover with EVA flooring

For example:

Brand: Sea Ray
Model: 240 Sundeck
Year: 2018
Areas: Cockpit + swim platform

The more clearly you explain the areas you want to cover, the easier it is for our team to determine the next step.

Step 2 — We Check Our Existing Template Database

Before asking you to measure anything, we first check whether we already have a compatible template.

HzKaiCun works with many boat brands, models, and model years.

If we already have the correct deck drawing, your project may move directly to the design stage.

However, even boats with the same model name can sometimes have different layouts depending on:

  • Model year
  • Factory options
  • Seating configuration
  • Swim platform design
  • Previous modifications

That is why photos are important.

They allow us to compare your actual boat with the template we have on file.

Step 3 — If Needed, Make a Deck Template

If we do not have a reliable template for your exact boat, you can make one.

This is one of the easiest ways to create custom EVA flooring for unusual, older, or modified boats.

The basic process uses:

  • Transparent template film
  • Masking tape
  • Permanent marker
  • A few reference measurements

Lay the film over the deck area, secure it with masking tape, and carefully trace the boundaries.

Important features such as hatches, drains, seat bases, table mounts, and other hardware should also be marked.

You should also clearly mark:

Bow

Stern

Port

Starboard

and your preferred EVA pattern direction.

Once completed, send us clear photos for review.

Step 4 — We Convert the Template Into a Digital Drawing

This is where your physical boat deck begins turning into a production-ready design.

Our team converts the template information into a digital layout.

During this stage, we review:

  • Overall deck shape
  • Curves
  • Corners
  • Hatch positions
  • Hardware locations
  • Section spacing
  • Pattern direction
  • Piece separation

If something looks unusual, we may compare it with your boat photos or ask for an additional measurement before production.

The goal is to identify potential problems before any EVA material is cut.

Step 5 — Choose Your EVA Color and Surface Pattern

Now comes the visual part.

Different boats suit different flooring combinations.

Popular options include:

Gray + Black

A clean, modern combination that works well with many white, gray, and black boat interiors.

Dark Gray + Black

A more aggressive, sporty appearance that also helps hide dirt.

Light Brown + Black

A warmer marine look inspired by traditional teak flooring.

You can also choose different surface styles depending on your project, including:

  • Brushed
  • Teak Style
  • Straight Line
  • Diamond

The right choice depends on both your boat design and the look you want to achieve.

Step 6 — Add Your Custom Logo or Design

Custom EVA flooring does not have to look generic.

Depending on the project, you can add:

  • Boat name
  • Custom text
  • Personal logo
  • Fishing logo
  • Graphic pattern
  • Custom routed design

We recommend keeping logos clean and readable.

A simple design usually looks better on a boat deck than an overly complicated graphic.

Before production, the location, scale, and orientation should be confirmed.

Step 7 — Prepare the Final Layout for CNC Cutting

Once the dimensions and design are confirmed, the flooring layout is prepared for CNC production.

CNC cutting allows the EVA pieces to follow complex deck shapes much more accurately than cutting them manually.

This is especially important for:

  • Curved edges
  • Tight corners
  • Hatch openings
  • Repeating patterns
  • Logos
  • Multiple connected sections

The digital layout determines where each piece will be cut and how the design will align across the deck.

Step 8 — CNC Cutting and Engraving

The selected EVA foam sheet is placed into production.

Our CNC equipment follows the approved digital drawing to cut the individual flooring sections.

Depending on the design, the machine may also create:

  • Routed lines
  • Teak patterns
  • Diamond patterns
  • Logos
  • Decorative grooves

After cutting, each section is separated and checked.

Step 9 — Quality Inspection

Before shipping, the flooring should be checked carefully.

At HzKaiCun, we pay attention to:

  • Material condition
  • Cutting accuracy
  • Engraving quality
  • Surface appearance
  • Adhesive backing
  • Piece count
  • General layout consistency

Custom flooring contains many individual pieces, so checking the complete set before packing is an important part of the process.

Step 10 — Packing and Shipping

Once inspection is complete, the EVA flooring is packed for shipment.

Each project may contain several individual sections depending on the size and layout of the boat.

When you receive your flooring, we recommend laying the pieces on the boat before removing the adhesive backing.

This allows you to confirm:

  • Piece location
  • Orientation
  • Spacing
  • Overall alignment

Do not peel the backing until you are satisfied with the positioning.

Step 11 — Installing Your New EVA Boat Flooring

Installation is usually straightforward.

Before installing:

  1. Remove old adhesive or residue
  2. Clean the deck thoroughly
  3. Make sure the surface is completely dry
  4. Position all EVA pieces without removing the backing
  5. Check alignment
  6. Install one section at a time

Avoid trying to position a large piece after completely removing the backing.

A better method is to expose part of the adhesive first, align the EVA piece carefully, and gradually press it into position.

Apply firm and even pressure across the entire surface.

How Long Does Custom EVA Boat Flooring Take?

Production time depends on:

  • Boat size
  • Number of pieces
  • Design complexity
  • Custom logos
  • Template corrections
  • Order volume

For most standard custom projects, production is completed within approximately 7 business days after the final production drawing is confirmed.

Please note that custom color orders or other special customization requests may require additional production time.

Shipping time depends on the destination and shipping method.

If you have an important boating trip or installation deadline, we recommend starting your project early.

What If We Don’t Have a Template for Your Boat?

This is one of the most common questions we receive.

The answer is simple:

You can make one.

With our template process, we can create custom flooring for many boats even when no ready-made digital drawing exists.

This makes custom EVA flooring possible for:

  • Older boats
  • Rare models
  • Modified boats
  • Custom-built boats
  • Unusual deck layouts

Customers participating in our qualifying template program may also receive 30% off their custom EVA flooring order.

Why Custom EVA Flooring Instead of Universal Mats?

Universal EVA sheets can work for simple DIY projects.

But custom-cut flooring offers several advantages:

  • Cleaner deck coverage
  • Better alignment around hatches
  • Consistent spacing
  • More professional appearance
  • Custom colors
  • Custom patterns
  • Optional logos
  • Easier planning before installation

Instead of forcing a generic shape onto your boat, custom flooring is designed around the actual deck layout.

Start With Your Boat Information

You do not need to know exactly which EVA layout you need before contacting us.

Start by sending:

Boat Brand + Model + Year + Deck Photos

Our team can check whether a template is available and explain the next step.

If a template already exists, the process may be easier than you expect.

If one does not exist, we can guide you through making your own.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can HzKaiCun make EVA flooring for an older boat?

Yes. If a ready-made template is not available, a tracing template can often be created from your actual deck.

Do I need professional CAD drawings?

No. A properly traced physical template can provide the information needed to create a digital layout.

Can I add my own logo?

Yes. Custom logos and text can be added to many EVA flooring projects.

What EVA thickness do you use?

Our common custom marine EVA flooring uses 5 mm EVA foam, depending on the selected product and project.

Does the flooring come with adhesive backing?

Our custom EVA boat flooring can be supplied with marine-grade adhesive backing for peel-and-stick installation.

Should I install the flooring immediately after receiving it?

Before installation, place all pieces in position first and confirm the complete layout. Only remove the adhesive backing once you are satisfied with the fit and orientation.

Final Word From Kai

Custom boat flooring is not just about cutting EVA foam into a shape.

The real work happens in the details:

the template, the digital drawing, the pattern direction, the hatch positions, the CNC layout, the engraving, and the final inspection.

When these steps are done carefully, installation becomes much easier.

That is why we always recommend starting with one simple thing:

Send us your boat brand, model, year, and deck photos.

From there, we can help you determine the best way to turn your boat deck into a custom EVA flooring project.
